Storms Pass By
Musical

STORMS PASS BY is an event celebrating the history and legacy of Black people in Mitchellville, South Carolina

(now Hilton Head, South Carolina).

Our story follows the lives of two communities, one set in 1862 and one set in present day. Luke, Flo & Hope are

connected from years of family relationships and more. While Washington, Izora & Mary are connected by survival

and through that effort to survive, they make a choice to become a family.

Once a thriving Black-owned land, Mitchellville built its own economy and community, and it seems Luke & Hope have forgotten who they are and where they come from. Flo’s job is to remind them of their lineage while also living in her truth.

This production honors the ideas of community, entrepreneurship, faith and love; while painting a real picture

of all the obstacles that will surely come while becoming the best version of ourselves.

Through performance, culture and resilience, this story mixes magical realism history to help root and ground us, giving us perspective and purpose.
